Fasting may continue in Nigeria as moon not sighted

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, under the leadership of His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alh. Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar has declared that fasting may continue on Sunday because Nigeria has not sighted the moon, indicating the end of the month of Ramadan. NSCIA made this known in a statement signed by the Secretary-General, Prof Is-haq Oloyede, on Saturday.  He also enjoined the Muslims to search for the crescent of Shawwal on the 29th of Ramadan, stressing, “If Muslims sight the crescent in accordance with the moon sighting and verification standards, then His Eminence would declare Sunday, March 30, 2025 as the 1st of Shawwal and the day of Idul Fitr.” 

Senate declined Natasha’s sexual harassment petition

The Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions has dismissed a petition bordering on sexual harassment filed by the Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, against Senate President Godswill Akpabio. The Chairman of the Committee, Senator Neda Imasuen, stated this on Wednesday during a probe hearing against Akpoti-Uduaghan at the National Assembly.  The Edo South Senator stated that the petition was “dead on arrival,” citing a breach of Order 40 of the Senate Standing Order.  According to Imasuen, Akpoti-Uduaghan signed the petition herself instead of having it endorsed by another individual, rendering it procedurally invalid.  The Edo lawmaker noted that the issues raised in the petition were already in court, making them subjudice.  “The petition that she (Natasha) presented today is actually dead on arrival; it runs contrary to Order 40, Subsection 4, which states that no senator may present to the Senate a pet...

Jude Okoye P-Square’s ex-manager remanded over suspected theft

Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Special Offences Court in Ikeja, on Tuesday, ordered the remand of the former manager of the defunct hip-hop music group, P-Square, at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre pending the hearing of his bail application over alleged $1m, and £34,000 theft. Justice Oshodi ordered his remand after taking his plea.  Okoye and his Northside Music Limited Company were arraigned before the court on four counts bordering on stealing and conversion of $1m and £34,000 royalties got from the music digital distribution/publishing.  During the arraignment, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission prosecution counsel, Mohammed Bashiru, told the court that Okoye and Northside Music Limited allegedly stole the sum of $1,019,763.87 and £34,537.59.   Bashiru told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offences sometime between 2016 and 2023.   He said Okoye and his Northside Music Limited dishonestly converted the sum of $767,54...

Parradang Ex-Immigration CG found dead in Abuja hotel after female visitor’s exit – Police

 The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has said a former Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service, David Parradang, was found dead in a hotel room in Abuja, hours after lodging with a female guest.  The command, in a statement by its spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, on Tuesday, said the retired CG checked into Joy House Hotel, Area 3 Junction, on March 3, 2025, at around 12noon, driving a black Mercedes Benz.  She said, “In light of the recent reports alleging that retired Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service, David Shikfu Parradang, was kidnapped and subsequently killed, we wish to clarify the facts surrounding this incident to ensure accurate information is disseminated to the public.  “On March 3, 2025, at approximately 12:00 pm, Mr Parradang arrived at Joy House Hotel, Area 3 Junction, driving a black Mercedes Benz.
