Ravaging cholera outbreak has hit Ogun State, killing one and leaving about five others hospitalised. Already, the epidemic has killed 21 in Lagos State with over 400 cases recorded. It is gathered the deceased is a 62-year-old woman in Ijebu-Igbo, Ijebu North Local Government Area of the state.  Locals said the woman caught the disease while tending to an infected child, now hospitalised. Five persons have already been hospitalised in the community, sources said. Ijebu-Igbo, the headquarters of Ijebu North LGA, is one of the epicenters of cholera disease in the state. Our correspondent reports that when Ogun recorded 12 deaths from cholera outbreak last year, the epidemic began in Ijebu Igbo with 217 cases. The federal government has announced the provision of a state-of-the-art water laboratory in Kano State aimed at ensuring accurate and reliable assessment of water quality.  Mrs Elizabeth Ugoh, the Director of Water Quality Control and Sanitation at the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, disclosed this during a one-day state event on the WASH Systems for Health (WS4H) programme. From Dotun Omisakin, Lagos At least five persons have been killed in an outbreak of Cholera in Lagos State. The state’s commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, who disclosed this, announced that 60 persons sustained injuries in the outbreak. He said cases of severe gastroenteritis have been reported in communities around Eti Osa, Lagos Island, Ikorodu and Kosofe Local Government Areas. He assured the government’s response, urging the residents to be vigilant and adopt precautionary measures to prevent the spread of a potential cholera outbreak in the State. “We have activated a statewide heightened surveillance and response.
