Protesters under the auspices of Kaduna Citizens Watch for Good Governance (KCWGG), on Thursday, stormed Kaduna State Government House to demand the probe and arrest of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, former governor of the state. They asked incumbent Governor Uba Sani to invite officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other relevant agencies to arrest and prosecute El-Rufai over his administration’s indictment to the tune of N423 billion. The protesters sang solidarity songs just as they displayed placards with different inscriptions. Some of the inscriptions read, ‘We will occupy all MDAs to chase out all indicted persons in the report’. ‘Stop servicing all loans that did not follow due process before they were obtained’. Mr Peter Obi, Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has called on political leaders and ordinary citizens to protect democracy jealously and uphold its tenets.  Obi urged leaders to obey the governing laws of the state and be accountable to the people. A former national vice chairman (North-West) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC),  Salihu Mohammed Lukman, has withdrawn his membership of the party.  Lukman, a former member of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) in a statement  on Wednesday said he left the party because of “lack of internal democracy” and alleged failure of  President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to allow reforms within the party. The APC chieftain has consistently criticised party leaders for allegedly jettisoning the founding vision and not embracing reforms. The House of Representatives on Tuesday called on the leadership of the National Assembly to intervene in the crisis surrounding the swearing-in of new members of the Plateau State House of Assembly. Recall that the crisis erupted after the swearing-in of some members-elect while others were been denied the opportunity, despite meeting all the legal requirements. The Court of Appeal had also nullified the certificates of return of 16 sitting members and ordered the issuance of new certificates to the new members.  The call by the House followed a motion by Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase during plenary in Abuja. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of foisting hardship on Nigerians, saying the people are angry over the situation of the country.  The party also said the APC has desecrated the democratic principles, legacies and values which the late Chief MKO Abiola laboured and died for.
