NNPP Suspends Govorship Candidate in Edo

Ahead of the September 21 governorship election in Edo State, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has suspended its governorship candidate, Azemhe Azena.


Azena was suspended by his ward 10 executive members in the Etsako East Local Government Area of the state. 

The suspension letter dated June 3, seen by our reporter yesterday, was signed by the ward 10 chairman, Kadiri Eshimokha; Mrs. Stella Afebua, woman leader; Comrade Eshiobu Johnson, youth leader; and Comrade Imonikho Abdul, secretary.

According to the letter, Azena was suspended for alleged gross misconduct, anti-party activities, and disregard for the party. 


The letter of suspension was also copied to the national chairman of the party, Edo State chairman, Edo North senatorial vice chairman, South South vice chairman, and the national chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as well as the Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC). 

It is reports that the suspension notice was received by the state chairman of the party on June 5. 

Responding, Azena described the suspension as fake and of no effect. He explained that the persons whose names appeared on the purported suspension letter were not from his ward. 

“The authentic ward 10 chairman of the NNPP, Etsako East Local Government chapter, is Mr. Goddy Iyamah. He has since refuted the claim,” he said.

Fasting may continue in Nigeria as moon not sighted

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, under the leadership of His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alh. Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar has declared that fasting may continue on Sunday because Nigeria has not sighted the moon, indicating the end of the month of Ramadan. NSCIA made this known in a statement signed by the Secretary-General, Prof Is-haq Oloyede, on Saturday.  He also enjoined the Muslims to search for the crescent of Shawwal on the 29th of Ramadan, stressing, “If Muslims sight the crescent in accordance with the moon sighting and verification standards, then His Eminence would declare Sunday, March 30, 2025 as the 1st of Shawwal and the day of Idul Fitr.”

NNPCL Officials Are Not Thieves Says Kyari

Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, has dismissed allegations that staff of the company are behind substandard importation of petroleum products into the country.  Speaking Wednesday when he appeared before a Senate Ad-hoc Committee over alleged economic sabotage in the petroleum industry, Kyari said he as the CEO, as well as the NNPCL had faced undue media attacks from persons doing everything to create the impression that the company is sabotaging the nation’s economy.  “NNPCL is faithful and will not lie to the country. We are not criminals and we are not thieves.
