A man killed for not given #200 bribe by a police in Bayelsa state

A policeman in Bayelsa State has killed a driver identified as Benalayefa Bako Asiayei, over his alleged refusal to give N200 bribe. 

The incident happened along Azikoro road in Yenagoa, the state capital. 

Death of the driver has attracted condemnation from the public and human rights groups.

The trigger-happy cop, who is attached to the police special patrol team in the state Operation Doo Akpo’ is yet to be identified as at the time of filling the report.


The late Asiayei, who is said to be 40 year-old and father of three was an electrician who used his car for commercial purposes in the evening to get additional income for his family needs.

It Doesn’t Matter If Another Governor Deposes Me Says Sanusi

Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, the 16th Emir of Kano, says he is not worried about the possibility of another governor removing him.  Former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje had dethroned Sanusi in 2020, following a personal rift. While Sanusi was reinstated by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, the 15th Emir, is contesting his dethronement in the court. ECOWAS Court Dismisses HEDA’s Suit Against FG On Gas Flaring

The ECOWAS Court of Justice, on Thursday, dismissed a suit brought by a non-governmental organisation (NGO), Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA).  Justice Sengu Mohamed Koroma, Judge Rapporteur who delivered the judgment, said the Court dismissed all claims of rights violations due to a lack of facts and evidence in support of the allegations and ordered the NGO to pay a nominal cost of one hundred thousand naira to the Nigerian government.  The initiating application with suit number ECW/CCJ/APP/40/21 was filed on 22 July 2021 by The Registered Trustees of HEDA Resource Centre, a registered NGO focused on anti-corruption, and non-partisan human rights and development in Nigeria.  The suit was premised on the alleged failure of Nigeria to guarantee the rights to life, dignity of the human person, physical and mental health, and right to a healthy environment for Nigerians particularly those residing in the oil-producing areas of Nigeria.  Re...
