Israel issued out message to nations over plans to arrest Netanyahu

Israel has called on those it described as “nations of the civilised world” to refuse to stand against any International Criminal Court arrest warrants issued against its leaders.
JTOWNGIST reported that Karim Khan, who is the chief prosecutor of the ICC had announced on Monday that his office had applied to a pre-trial panel for arrest warrants for three senior Hamas officials.

He also said that the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and his defence minister, Yoav Gallant would be arrested for war crimes and crimes against humanity during the Hamas attack of 7 October and the ensuing seven-month-old war in Gaza.

The announcement was met with outrage by Israeli officials, the public, and the country’s allies.

In an official reaction on Tuesday, a spokesperson for the Israeli government, Tal Heinrich, said, “We call on the nations of the civilised, free world – nations who despise terrorists and anyone who supports them – to stand by Israel. You should outright condemn this step

“Make sure the ICC understands where you stand. Oppose the prosecutor’s decision and declare that, even if warrants are issued, you do not intend to enforce them. Because this is not about our leaders. It’s about our survival.”

The prosecutor made it clear that Israel had the right to defend itself from Hamas, but that it did not “absolve Israel or any state of its obligation to comply with international humanitarian law”.

Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, the 16th Emir of Kano, says he is not worried about the possibility of another governor removing him.  Former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje had dethroned Sanusi in 2020, following a personal rift. ECOWAS Court Dismisses HEDA’s Suit Against FG On Gas Flaring

The ECOWAS Court of Justice, on Thursday, dismissed a suit brought by a non-governmental organisation (NGO), Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA).  Justice Sengu Mohamed Koroma, Judge Rapporteur who delivered the judgment, said the Court dismissed all claims of rights violations due to a lack of facts and evidence in support of the allegations and ordered the NGO to pay a nominal cost of one hundred thousand naira to the Nigerian government.  The initiating application with suit number ECW/CCJ/APP/40/21 was filed on 22 July 2021 by The Registered Trustees of HEDA Resource Centre, a registered NGO focused on anti-corruption, and non-partisan human rights and development in Nigeria.  The suit was premised on the alleged failure of Nigeria to guarantee the rights to life, dignity of the human person, physical and mental health, and right to a healthy environment for Nigerians particularly those residing in the oil-producing areas of Nigeria.  Re...
