Robbers invade home of Vanguard owner ‘Uncle Sam’

Founder and owner of the Vanguard newspapers, Sam Amuka, popularly called Uncle Sam, was on Thursdayattacked by armed robbers.
They stormed his Anthony Village residence, tied up his guards and stormed the building, by cutting out a burglary protection from one of the windows.
Reports say they could not get access to Amuka’s bedroom where he had locked himself, but they climbed and broke through the ceiling.
On getting to him they beat him with iron rods demanding for ‘the money’, after which they escaped with an unspecified amount of cash, phones and other electronic items.
It was gathered that the octogenarian publisher was planning to undertake a trip to South Africa, and that the robbers stole the money meant for the trip.
A company dispatch rider who usually delivers the day’s paper to the publisher’s residence was quoted as saying he saw a ash-coloured vehicle speed away from the area that early hours of the morning.
Police authorities have vowed to apprehend those behind the incidence that has landed Amuka in hospital, and disclosed that 10 persons had so far been arrested, connection to the robbery, while investigations are still ongoing.
