Six killed in renewed herdsmen attack in Benue

Six people have been killed after herdsmen attacked Tse Gbangu village in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State yesterday night June 23rd. According to Benue.com.ng, the herdsmen said to be from Nassarawa state, ambushed the victims along Akwana-Wukari, slaughtered them and burnt their vehicle.

Residents of the village say they had given the police prior notice that hundreds of herdsmen from Nassarawa State had crossed River Benue at Kwatan Ugbu near Tunga village into Benue state, preparatory to the attack, but the police did not act the information. This attack comes a week after some herdsmen attacked three communities in the state, killing over 26 people.

Fasting may continue in Nigeria as moon not sighted

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, under the leadership of His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alh. Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar has declared that fasting may continue on Sunday because Nigeria has not sighted the moon, indicating the end of the month of Ramadan. NSCIA made this known in a statement signed by the Secretary-General, Prof Is-haq Oloyede, on Saturday.  He also enjoined the Muslims to search for the crescent of Shawwal on the 29th of Ramadan, stressing, “If Muslims sight the crescent in accordance with the moon sighting and verification standards, then His Eminence would declare Sunday, March 30, 2025 as the 1st of Shawwal and the day of Idul Fitr.”

NNPCL Officials Are Not Thieves Says Kyari

Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, has dismissed allegations that staff of the company are behind substandard importation of petroleum products into the country.  Speaking Wednesday when he appeared before a Senate Ad-hoc Committee over alleged economic sabotage in the petroleum industry, Kyari said he as the CEO, as well as the NNPCL had faced undue media attacks from persons doing everything to create the impression that the company is sabotaging the nation’s economy.  “NNPCL is faithful and will not lie to the country. We are not criminals and we are not thieves.
